Event Details

Love singing? Then why not spend Valentine’s Day at THE MUCKLE SING 2015?

A day of workshops for community singing groups and individual singers, led by Siobhan & Brian Miller, plus an opportunity for informal group performances.

All are welcome - from the beginner to the experienced performer and no need to be able to read music.

The morning and afternoon will include traditional and contemporary Scottish songs, with an emphasis on group singing. Siobhan and Brian will share their musical knowledge as well as their many years’ experience as tutors in order to ensure that everyone takes away something either around technique or new material or both – with a good sing along the way!

Performance Platform

An opportunity for community singing groups from far and near who wish to perform songs from their own repertoire for the entertainment of other participants. (There is absolutely no mandatory requirement to do this, however; only if your group so wishes!)

Groups wishing to perform should prepare up to 3 songs. Preferably let us know in advance if your group wishes to perform.

The final half hour will be given over to Siobhan & Brian performing an acoustic set of songs for us, so don’t leave early!

Tea, coffee, juice, tap water and biscuits included in the workshop price.

We do not supplying any food for purchase, so you may either bring what you prefer in your own packed lunches, or there are shops and a bakery just over the road, that sell filled rolls etc, and other local cafes.

TMSA Edinburgh & Lothians Branch

The aim of the Traditional Music and Song Association (TMSA) of Scotland is to promote and develop interest and participation in traditional music. Run on a voluntary basis by local people, the Edinburgh & Lothians Branch actively promotes Scottish traditional music and song by running events, ceilidhs, sessions and workshops such as the Northern Streams Festival and annual Muckle Sing events. The Branch is keen to increase involvement and encourage participation in cultural activities – particularly passing on the tradition from one generation to the next and sees the Northern Streams Festival, as an opportunity to promote this goal. The Branch also works in partnership with other local and national organisations to promote the rich heritage of Scotland's culture – such as with the Edinburgh Folk Club on their annual Carrying Stream Festival – celebrating the legacy of Hamish Henderson and his contemporaries who did so much to capture and pass on the traditions of the country.
