Event description
Create your own cabinet of curiosities to keep small items in and learn how to conserve them for future generations!

About this Event

The Gell family archive at the Derbyshire Record Office contain letters, diaries and other material relating to the polar explorer Sir John Franklin, his wife Jane, and his daughter Eleanor, who married into the Gell family. Within the archive is a small collection of mementos from around the world. In 2019, a crowdfunding campaign enabled Derbyshire Record Office to catalogue, package and photograph these objects.

In this artist-led workshop, we will learn about Lady Jane’s collection, make our own cabinet of curiosities from household items and learn how to look after our museums from Derbyshire Record Office conservators.

This is an online event and is suitable for families. Please note, in order to join us, we ask that you read and agree to our Online Safety Agreement; this will be sent to you to read when you register your place
