About this Event

Renowned Palestinian vocalist and oud player Kamilya Jubran has been a revered and inspiring musical figure in folkloric traditions, electronic and contemporary music scene for over four decades. From her highly influential work with the Jerusalem music collective Sabreen in the 1980s to her recent collaborations and experimental-electronic projects, Kamilya’s music has been deeply intertwined with the evolution of the Palestinian cultural scene and a spearheading contribution to experimental music.

The evening will kick-off with a 20-minute performance by Kamilya, followed by a journey through the past decades of her music from her Jerusalem beginnings to her latest album and upcoming UK tour with trumpeter and seasoned electronic musician Werner Hasler. Throughout the event, Kamilya will be in conversation with musician, ethnomusicologist and author of Orientalism and Musical Mission, Rachel Beckles Willson, where they'll be reviewing her musical pursuits since 1982, the challenges faced and hopes for the future.

This event is brought to you by Marsm and Arts Council England, supported by Converging Paths, an exciting music and culture showcase series from Asia House & Barakat Trust.
