About this event

The Need For Better User Authentication For Digital Devices image

Given that people use digital devices to access sensitive and personal information such as online payment and Internet banking, an enhanced authentication approach that continuously and transparently protects the user’s information from unauthorized access is essential. This workshop investigates the feasibility of a novel bio-metric modality that offers a flexible and robust authentication for the digital devices such as smartphones, smartwatches, personal computers, and tablet etc. . Security concerns and existing user authentication approaches (including the strength and weakness of each approach) is also highlighted. The proposed solution would not ask users to perform certain actions but data would be collected in the background and used to verify the user’s identity.

About the Speaker

Dr Neemah Al-Naffakh, is a Postdoctoral researcher at University of Wolverhampton. His PhD concentrated on securing smartphones by using the rich sensing capabilities of the wearable devices. There is a potential invention to use these devices for designing a novel health care model that provides comprehensive and continuous medical care to patients with a goal to obtain maximal health outcome using the patient’s biometric information (e.g, skin temperature, heart rate, and acceleration). His research interests reside in the area of information security, biometrics, forensics and intrusion detection and has over 10 outputs consisting of journal papers, conference papers, and book chapters.
