Event description

Description

Hear writer and musician Damon Krukowski discuss the ideas laid out in his book The New Analog, which uses the sound engineer’s distinction of signal and noise to examine the ways we are using sound to share information in the technological age.

Having made his name in the late 1980s as a member of the indie band Galaxie 500, Damon Krukowski has watched cultural life lurch from analog to digital and is fascinated by the ways in which the switch from analogue to digital audio has influenced the way we perceive and think about everything from time and space to love, money and power.

Having witnessed these changes, Damon has some urgent questions about how our relationship with sound is affecting our way of being in the world. Are our devices leaving us lost in our own headspace even as they pinpoint our location? Does streaming media discourage us from listening closely? Though our voices carry further than they ever did before, are they being heard?

Tickets are free for members and £3 for non-members.

All proceeds from our cultural programme go to the Kibera Hamlets School in Nairobi, where Second Home has funded the construction of a new school building designed by our architects Selgas Cano.
