The New Working Class with Claire Ainsley: Public Attitudes & Policy-making
Event Information
Description
Recent events such as the Brexit vote and the 2017 General Election result highlight the erosion of traditional class identities and the decoupling of class from political identity.
The majority of people in the UK still identify as working class, yet no political party today can confidently articulate their interests.
So, who is now working class and how do political parties gain their support?
How is the changing conception of class affecting the role of public attitudes in policy-making?
What would a policy agenda for the New Working Class look like?
Claire Ainsley is the Executive Director of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, with strategic oversight of JRF’s policy and research, analysis and communications. She is responsible for driving JRF’s strategy to inspire action to solve UK poverty, and is the author of The New Working Class: How to Win Hearts, Minds and Votes.
Claire will be discussing her new book, with a focus on the role of public attitudes in policy-making across the public sector, and taking questions at this free discussion event.
Come along, listen to an interesting discussion and continue the conversation over drinks afterwards.
