Event description

Description

The next stage - navigating mid-life transitions

  • Retiring… and concerned about how you will “cope”
  • Struggling with being made redundant
  • Considering a new career in your retirement but not sure where to start
  • Perhaps you are still working but know you need a major change in direction
  • Looking forward to retirement but not sure what interests you have outside work
  • No longer a full time parent or carer and wondering what you do now

These are just some of the challenges that people face at “a certain age”. You have probably thought about the practical and financial considerations. But when work or parenting have been a large part of not just what you do but who you are, you also need a plan for how to navigate the emotional and psychological realities of these mid-life transitions.

What we will cover:

This interactive workshop will provide an opportunity for you to explore and understand what’s involved for you in making these transitions as well as some practical tools for planning and managing this process. We will cover topics such as:

  • Understanding the emotional impact of making life transitions
  • Letting go of the past and acknowledging the loss and changes you face
  • What part your role plays in how you define who you are
  • How work met your needs for recognition, social contact, structure etc. and how you can meet those needs going forward
  • Understanding your values and what’s important to you
  • Understanding and managing the stress associated with these changes
  • Overcoming ambivalence and procrastination
  • Exploring expectations and changes in roles and relationships e.g. friends & family
  • Building a support network

By the end of the day you will have learned how to cope with this emotional journey by creating your own transition map that combines your new understanding of what’s important to you in life with the ability to evaluate your future options and the confidence to put them into practice.
