Event description

Description

Join us for an evening of heritage variety apple tree grafting in the Northern Quarter, Manchester.

We'll supply all you need to take away at least one dwarfing (M27) or semi vigorous (MM106) rootstock. With locally sourced heritage variety cultivars to choose from we'll teach you a few of the not-so-hard-graft techniques, tips and tricks to extend or start your orchard.

Don't know your scions from your rootstocks? "What's a cultivar again?", "Ahhh I keep spooning my cuts!". All terms, techniques, shortcuts and vocabulary will be clearly explained by our own in-house expert Dan Hasler from The Orchard Project.

Hosted at Ziferblat on Edge Street in the Northern Quarter for its easy access to the city centre, great refreshments on tap all night and let's face it, a quirky room with a chalk board and lots of retro desk space.

This is primarily for our network of Orchard Leaders/Carers from community orchards across Greater Manchester but open to anyone who wants a cheap tree and has a willingness to learn.

We have the room booked from 7:30, please arrive promptly, you'll enter at street level, ring the bell for access, go upstairs and see the reception desk. Grab yourself a free drink or snack from the plethora of options in the communal kitchen and then ask for directions to The Classroom.

FAQs

Do I need to come to both evenings?

No, just come to event that suits your own calendar. They are popular courses but we can only train 8-10 people per night as it requires a lot of one-on-one checking of cuts made.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Over 18s only please.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is metered parking on streets nearby which is free after 8pm, so you'll need to pay for less than an hour if driving. Please use public transport if possible.

What can I bring into the event?

If you have a favourite pair of secateurs you like to use that's fine. However, all tools will be provided. Please note we will be using very sharp knives and an option of a grafting tool will be demonstrated.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

email: dan@theorchardproject.org.uk

What's the refund policy?

We'll refund your ticket as long as you give us at least 24hr notice. Because of the limited number of tickets we will try to fill your place.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes please,

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Yes, that's fine but please drop Dan and email: dan@theorchardproject.org.uk
