Event description

Description

‘The Playboy Rioters’ in association with ‘Irish Theatre Co’ Presents…The Passion of the Playboy Riots’, an original and exciting new Irish play, based on the published writings of W. B. Yeats, Lady Gregory and Patrick Pearse, (the first leader of the Easter Rising to face the firing squad.) Set backstage at The Abbey Theatre, during performances of the ground-breaking Irish plays Cathleen ni Hoolihan (in1902,) The Playboy of the Western World (1907) and The Plough and the Stars (1926,) the play portrays what happens when Pearse accuses Yeats and Lady Gregory, (who were striving hard to promote Irish culture and support Home Rule) – of being ‘unpatriotic’ and ‘insufficiently Irish!’

Professor R. F. Foster, Author of ‘Yeats: A Life’ saysIt’s taut, funny and thought provoking.”.

The play is Written by Neil Wetherall and Directed by John Dunne.
