While it is the lifeblood of any successful business, growth can often have a sting in its tale as too much of it can be a bad thing, especially if it’s not timed well and managed wisely.
With this in mind, we’re sitting down with Sam Flanagan in January to hear how he’s currently steering Blueprint Web Tech through these challenges.
While Blueprint is no goliath-sized software company, they do very much compete with much bigger rivals to win clients such as Bluewater Shopping Centre and the global infrastructure giant AMEY. It’s not always been that way though. A few years back, Blueprint found itself dependent on a single client, who went bust. It’s times like these where we learn, and that’s what Sam did. He’s evolving Blueprint into a resilient and successful agency which has seen revenues double in the last year alone.
Sam is looking forward to sharing the 3 things he’s focussed on to make this happen so they can help to drive growth for other agencies too. 1 of his 3 was the achievement of Investors in People (IiP) for Blueprint. While IiP is often regarded as something only larger corporates pursue, Sam believes it provides a clear structure for employee engagement and has an important role in employer branding.

How does the evening run?
After some coffees (or beers) to get us settled in, we will spend sometime with Sam to hear about his experiences and then taking questions to expand the discussion further. The main points are then de-briefed and a short peer-learning activity is set for the Giants to work on in small groups. We then come back together to share the main learnings and each Giant is tasked with identifying the one thing they will take back to the workplace.
We do have a few house rules
- No selling - it's not a battle to pass your card to everyone in the room
- Owners/Senior team only - by keeping it at this level, you can be sure you'll be learning along side your peers
- Have fun & learn something new
What does it cost?
If it's your first time, it's free! If you're returning, then it's £25, but once the cost of tea's and coffees are taken for, the rest goes directly to charity - usually as much as £180 per event.
