The Patient Flow Conference 2022

The Convenzis Patient Flow conference series provides a platform for NHS urgent care professionals and clinical specialists to meet and discuss changes in national policy and strategic change. The COVID-19 outbreak undoubtedly triggered the most challenging year the NHS has ever faced, however, the outbreak, has by default, provided a springboard for NHS facing innovation and technology adoption.

A&E attendances and emergency admissions also saw a significant reduction, the total number of attendances in January 2021 was 1,310,800, a decrease of 38.0% on the same month last year. Of these, attendances at type 1 A&E departments were 29.1% lower when compared with January 2021 and at type 3 departments were 53.4% lower.

As a key objective within the NHS Long Term Plan, NHS E/I have developed a paper that sets out how urgent and emergency care provision will be developed, drawing on outcomes and learnings from the Covid-19 outbreak.

The paper aims to deliver improved outcomes and a better experience of care, whether that is by phone or online from NHS 111, at home from a paramedic, in a GP practice or pharmacy, or when necessary, in the emergency department.
