About this event
Following on from the success of our first course together, in this new collaboration between Lucie Rose Galvani and Clarissa Grandi you will learn how to construct and ornament a stunning Gothic rose window with a peacock feather stained glass effect.
This two-day live-online event takes place via Zoom on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd November from 4pm to 7pm (GMT)/London time) each day.
***Please note: There is no requirement to attend the 'live' sessions. The session recordings will be made available to all ticket holders within 48 hours. There is no time limit for completion. Subtitles will be available.***
Although it is preferable to have some basic knowledge of geometric drawing, the workshop would be suitable for beginners in ruler and compass construction who are up for a challenge.
Please scroll to the bottom for the full list of required equipment.
A brief summary of the sessions:
On Saturday, Lucie will lead us step-by-step through the ruler and compass construction of this stunning rayonnant Gothic rose window from the Saint-Etienne Cathedral in Metz, France.
To construct this 8-petalled rose window, you will learn some key foundational elements of Gothic ornamentation, including the broken arch, tangent circles, trefoils and quatrefoils.
Lucie will finish by demonstrating how to use your compass to trace one quarter of the design onto tracing paper, and how to use this 'slice' to transfer the full pattern onto a separate sheet of watercolour or mixed media paper, if desired.
On Sunday, Clarissa will lead you through the decoration of your pattern with a unique stained glass effect infill inspired by the elegant beauty of peacock feathers.
We will first look at how to double outline the tracery in your choice of two different pens, either freehand, or using your compass.
We will then design one section of our peacock feather infills on tracing paper, before transferring this design across the whole window. There will be two layouts to choose from, but you are also encouraged to design your own arrangement, if you wish.
Finally, Clarissa will demonstrate several different methods for adding colour using commonly accessible art materials such as fineliners, felt tips, marker pens and coloured pencils, as well as watercolour pencils and paints.
Please note that you will be provided with a copy of the final pattern for you to print off and practice on during Sunday's session, in case your own version is not yet finished and ready for decorating.
Accessing the workshop live
The workshop requires you to use Zoom, a free video conferencing app. Please be prepared to log into the online session 10 minutes beforehand, to ensure a prompt start.
You will be emailed the Zoom meeting link the day before the session, with a reminder of any equipment needed (see below). This information will also be accessible via the Online Event Page.
If you do not receive the email, please check your spam folder and your Eventbrite email preferences in your account settings, before contacting the organiser.
As explained above, if you are not able to attend the sessions 'live', please be assured that the session recordings will be made available to you within 48 hours.
