Overview

Unravel one of history’s greatest thinkers exploring the ‘death of God’, the meaning of life, and the value of our values. Followed by Q&A.

In 1882, Nietzsche famously declared that “God is dead.” This phrase has become world-famous and is often linked to the idea of nihilism – the belief that life has no ultimate meaning. Nietzsche was one of the first thinkers to confront the decline of religion in Europe and the rise of modern, secular society. He asked important questions: if there is no higher power, what gives our lives meaning? And in a mostly secular world, how should we think about values and what is right or wrong?

In this workshop, Dr Elliott will explore the key ideas of Nietzsche. First, we’ll look at his famous “death of God” message and why it matters today. We’ll also explore how Nietzsche encourages us to create our own values and find meaning in life without relying on religion or tradition. Through discussion, reflection, and group activities, you’ll gain practical insights for thinking about your own life and the world around you.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Understand the concepts of the death of God, nihilism, and why questioning our values matters
  • Explore key passages from Nietzsche’s works in an interactive, discussion-friendly format
  • Learn the difference between passive and active nihilism and why Nietzsche’s view is more nuanced than most people think
  • Explore Nietzsche’s tools for making life meaningful – like self-overcoming, embracing challenges, and celebrating life
