Event description

Description

It looked like love. It felt like love. But this isn’t a love story. Join Holly Bourne, award-winning author of Am I Normal Yet?, as she shines a frank light on romance, heartbreak, and what a healthy relationship really looks like in her new YA novel, The Places I’ve Cried in Public. In discussion with Gina Martin, the incredible activist who made upskirting illegal, they’ll chat about romance, feminism, healthy relationships, what the #metoo movement means for young people, and of course, crying in public. After all, who hasn’t been that girl, sobbing at the bus stop? Tissues at the ready!

This event is done in partnership with Women’s Aid, and you will get an exclusive opportunity to experience performance poetry from a young survivor working with Women’s Aid and hear about their latest projects. £1 from every ticket donated to support their work making sure every woman and child are safe.

Holly Bourne is a journalist and best-selling author, whose books are inspired by her work at an advice charity for young people, her own experiences of blatant everyday sexism, and her passion for getting everyone talking about the importance of mental health. Her works include the trail blazingly feminist Spinster Club series and the Sunday Times best-selling adult novel, How Do You Like Me Now?

Gina Martin is an activist and writer. In February 2019 her eighteen-month campaign to make upskirting a sexual offence in England and Wales was successful and The Voyeurism Act was passed into law. Gina was named ‘One to Watch for 2018’ by Cosmopolitan and one of PORTER’S Incredible Women of the year 2018; she also won Equality Champion of the year at the inaugural Stylist magazine Remarkable Women award’s in 2019 shortly followed by being crowned Cosmopolitan’s Change Maker of the Year in May 2019
