Event description

Description

PEEL EEZY and EMBASSY would like to invite you to participate in The Plaza. The project aims to contribute to the evolving conversation surrounding artist-run activity, and the growing need to be self-organised, both as individual artists and as a wider creative community.

The Plaza is a temporary space (18 Nov – 1 Dec, Thurs - Sun) developed by collaborative duo PEEL EEZY and EMBASSY Gallery. Together we have built a structured framework for workshopping and discussion.

Questions to consider in The Plaza:

  • What do we want the Edinburgh Artist-Run Iniative network to look like?

  • What uses do/could ARIs serve the artistic community and the wider public?

  • What challenges do we face in getting there?

You are invited to occupy an hour-long slot where you will generate content (artwork, writing, scribbles etc) for 1-2 sides of A3 that will then be printed live on an in-house risograph printer by technicians from Mutual (artist-run studio co-operative based in Craigmillar) and added to a 'living archive'. Some of these pages will be available to the public (on a first-come-first-served basis) for no charge on the day of printing, while all the pages will be collated in a loose-leaf publication that will be available at the end of the project for a suggested donation.

The Plaza will pay an in-kind token of £8.45 per double-sided A3 page. Each hour-long slot will produce a double-sided A3 page. The content and payment for a said page will be split between the participants occupying each hour-long slot. The work produced in their hour slot does not need to directly relate to themes of self-organisation. Basic materials will be provided and technicians will be present to ensure that the work produced each hour translates into Riso print. Participants can have work in mind / prepared before they arrive for their slot.
