Nicholas Albery (social innovator, author, activist and poetry super fan) founded this event in 1995. You can read more about him here
Thinking that a "Poetry Challenge" would be a way to raise money for charity (it's tough memorising and performing!), he set up this annual event usually scheduled for the Sunday after National Poetry Day) and encouraged people to come together to support poetry in all its forms.
This is an amateur event: No pressure...only love, support and appreciation
Fundraising is optional but encouraged. Performers take responsibility for managing their own charitable donations
Each performer should aim for 2-4 minutes of material (more than 1 poem is fine)
If you'd prefer to sing or recite in another language - Go for it!
We are charging a small fee of £5.50 per performer (all proceeds to charity - and you can bring a guest to support you for FREE). We can only accomodate 35 performers with 1 guest each so you must book tickets for entrance to the event.
Refreshments will be on sale to support St. Margaret's House - an Arts and Wellbeing charity - who are hosting the event
