The Polarity Paradox Preview Network Evening
Thursday, 13 February 2014 from 18:00 to 21:00 (EST)
Binge and bust your way through an evening of Pre-Polarity Paradox brain-dump frolics.
From frivolous spending and thrifty apps, multi-screening behaviours and digital detox retreats to the binge and purge of 5:2 diets, consumers are oscillating between extremes.
At the same time, lifestyle sectors, art and entertainment and sensory experiences are collapsing into one another, as time-poor experience seekers, omni-channel expectations and a growing thirst for data ushers in an era of ubiquitous convergence.
Even assumptions about age are crumbling around us as an increasingly powerful global population of elderly consumers sticks two fingers up at societal convention and embraces life with vigour in a new Flat Age.
Against this backdrop, what are the rules for brands in a world where there are no rules? We pick six exciting minds to offer their own view in a series of table discussions at LS:N Global’s Polarity Paradox Preview Network evening on 13 February.
Guest speakers on the night include:
: Steve Callanan
Steve is founder and CEO of WireWAX, a new agency that embeds taggable content into videos on the web. WireWAX enables lifestyle brands to weave interactive content into their advertising online, and blurs the line between content and commerce. Callanan will talk about how platform shifts are changing how we consume content online.
: Kate Percival
In 2012, Kate co-founded Grace Belgravia, the UK’s first health, wellbeing and lifestyle club for women, which offers a preventative and integrated approach to healthcare. Grace Belgravia has a medical clinic, spa, gym, fitness studios, restaurant and bar, and is the realisation of the model she developed for her Master’s thesis on the Convergence of Medicine and the Global Spa Industry, for which she won the University thesis prize in 2009. Kate will be speaking about how health and wellness is spurring on the Flat Age Society.
: Peter Crnokrak
Peter Crnokrak – also known by his nom de guerre Luxury of Protest – is an award winning designer and artist. With an educational background in evolutionary biology, computational art and quantitative genetics, Crnokrak explores the convergence between art and new technologies, creating works that elucidate and elevate data sets to uncover complex social issues. Crnokrak will be speaking about how he turns vast data into intricate art, and why we are seeing two seemingly disparate practices intertwine.
: Imogen Matthews
Imogen, a beauty editor, consultant and publisher is behind 'Older Women: The Forgotten Demographic' one of the first comprehensive studies of the 50+ female beauty market. Imogen Matthews has worked in the beauty industry for years, is a board member of Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW UK) and recieved the prestigious CEW Achiever Award in 2009. She is also publisher of the Premium Market Report. Imogen joins LS:N Global to talk about the vast, and largely untapped potential of the older female beauty market, and how brands should be talking to this group.
: Marie Stafford
Marie Stafford is planning foresight director at leading communications agency JWT. Her work on the JWT Austerity Index revealed the opportunity pensioners and aging Baby Boomers offer to brands looking to make themselves austerity-proof. She will also be speaking about the widening economic gaps that are driving some consumers into foraging and food-swapping.
: Peter Firth
As senior journalist at The Future Laboratory's trends forecasting network LS:N Global, Peter has led research on the Polarity Paradox for the upcoming Trend Briefing. Peter will unpack the Flexitarianism, Digiphrenia and Fear Economy shaping the careers, relationships and buying patterns of tomorrow’s consumers.
Speakers will host open-table discussions, each focusing on a different topic. They will share their insights and underline opportunities.
As usual, six speakers will speak for six minutes to intimate tables of six guests.
LS:N Global editors, researchers and analysts will also be on hand to introduce our speakers, answer questions or direct you to future research and interviews on the subjects covered elsewhere on the LS:N Global Network.
