A leading specialise in postal history of the Middle East, Tarik Alireza's presentation will describe how postal services in Arabia developed from their beginnings in antiquity through to the early years of Saudi rule in the 1930s.
It will include a film and a display focusing on correspondence with Great Britain from the early nineteenth century onwards.
He will draw on his own collection of stamps, letters and envelopes, and the stories they tell.
Mr. Alireza, an architect by day, began collecting in 1967. He is a Fellow of the Royal
Philatelic Society of Great Britain, who has exhibited worldwide and won many medals and
awards, most recently Best in Show in London this year.
He is currently working on a book on the postal history of Saudi Arabia.
Following Mr Alireza's talk there will be a drinks reception.
