A unique opportunity to hear two of the world’s most experienced peacemakers, Scilla Elworthy, PhD, and Sheikh Ghassan Manasra, talk about their work helping others to build peace and a deep understanding and connection between people of disparate communities.

SCILLA ELWORTHY PhD

Three times Nobel Peace Prize nominee for her work with Oxford Research Group to develop effective dialogue between nuclear weapons policy-makers worldwide and their critics, work which included a series of meetings between Chinese, Russian and western nuclear scientists and military, Scilla founded Peace Direct in 2002 to fund, promote and learn from local peace-builders in conflict areas: Peace Direct was voted ‘Best New Charity’ in 2005.

She was awarded the Niwano Peace Prize in 2003 and was adviser to Peter Gabriel, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Sir Richard Branson in setting up ‘The Elders’. Scilla co-founded Rising Women Rising World in 2013, and FemmeQ in 2016 to establish the qualities of feminine intelligence for women and men as essential to use in building a safer world. Her TED talk on nonviolence has been viewed by over 1,400,000 people. Her latest book The Business Plan for Peace: Building a World Without War (2017) and her book Pioneering the Possible: awakened leadership for a world that works (North Atlantic Books, 2014) both received critical acclaim from experts in the field.

She is an Ambassador for Peace Direct, a Councillor of the World Future Council and patron of Oxford Research Group; adviser to the Syria Campaign and the Institute for Economics and Peace.

SHEIKH GHASSAN MANASRA

As a peacemaker from the Holy Land, Sheikh Ghassan believes that all people around the world from all religions are equal and must continue as partners and colleagues together to build a world of peace, harmony, and humanity.

A Fulbright scholar, in 2014 he was awarded the Outstanding Leader in Interreligious Dialogue Award from the Dialogue Institute of Temple University and is a foremost authority on the Qu’ran, as well as having studied Theology, Psychology, Philosophy, History, Comparative Religion, Meditation & Retreat, Advanced Arabic and Poetry.

For the last 20 years, he has taught at conferences and events in the Holy Land, and lectured on Islam, Peacemaking, Interfaith, and Multifaith internationally (USA, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Israel, Egypt, Canada) in numerous Universities, Conferences, Churches, Mosques, Synagogues, and places of Government, as well as advising many ministers and special envoys worldwide.

He is also a co-author for Coexistence and Reconciliation In Israel: Voices For Interreligious Dialogue (Edited by Rabbi Ronald Kronish, Stimulus Books,2015) and

Light upon Light, A Journey With the Sufis (Inbar Publications, 2006).
