The Power of Poetry: Caleb Femi, Yomi Sode &

About this Event

Poet, director and former Young People’s Laureate for London, Caleb featured in the Dazed 100 list of the next generation shaping youth culture. For inspiration, he draws upon childhood memories in Nigeria and Peckham.

Another Peckham voice, Writer/ Poet Yomi Sode, balances the fine line between both Nigerian and British cultures, which can be humorous, loving, self-reflective and uncomfortable.

The event will be hosted by Nick Makoha. As a young boy, Nick Makoha fled Idi Amin's dictatorship in Uganda and has since resided in Kenya, Saudi Arabia and currently London. His debut collection Kingdom of Gravity was nominated by The Guardian as one of the best books of 2017 and his poems have appeared in The New York Times and Poetry Review, among others. He is a Creative Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Goldsmiths working to create an in depth online digital archive of the Metic experiences of Black British Writers.

Presented in association with the Black Cultural Archives and Apples & Snakes.

Tickets: £10, Concession: £8, 18 and under: £6; plus Eventbrite fee if purchased online
