The Power of Proof: How Documentation Can Support Justice for International Crimes and Human Rights Violations in Palestine

This panel will discuss the importance of documenting international crimes and human rights violations in Palestine to seek justice. It will address the role that mobile technology can play in authenticating photographic and video evidence and bridging the gap between human rights documenters and accountability mechanisms, as well as how holding businesses to account is an important aspect of pursuing justice.

The panel will include speakers from eyeWitness to Atrocities, a charity that has developed a free controlled-capture mobile app that allows users to capture authenticated photos and videos with their phones to increase the chances of such footage being admitted in court. In the era of AI and fake news, authenticating audio-visual evidence and ensuring that the chain of custody is preserved is essential and increasingly complex. The panel will also include a speaker from Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights, a lawyer-based legal charity in the UK that implements key legal projects to protect and advance Palestinian human rights.

Together, they will explore the importance of documentation for justice, particularly in the context of Palestine including achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.”
