Event description

Description

The most significant non-technological development in business and society this century will be purpose. This is the message from John O’Brien’s book The Power of Purpose, which details proven rationale, techniques and messages of how businesses of all sizes and scale can create long-lasting sustainable success.

John’s unique insights come from working with and interviewing leaders from the likes of Virgin, LEGO, Unilever and lesser known businesses. John will share the insights capable of inspiring teams, engaging teams and winning customers and which have made him one of the leading experts in ethical based purpose, advising such businesses globally.

Background on speaker

John was born, educated and still lives in Shropshire but after 10 years as a British Army infantry officer, has spent 24 years creating a highly-regarded reputation in ethical purpose, corporate social responsibility, philanthropy and mass public campaigning.

He splits his time between Shropshire and leading activities based out of London and New York as a partner of ONEHUNDRED, the purpose agency of US global marketing giant Omnicom. Prior to this, he spent seven years creating his own purpose agency and a decade before that was The Prince of Wales’s personal Director of Programmes at the charity, Business in the Community. There, alongside various UK responsibilities, he created programmes covering 20 countries and on leaving in 2010, John was asked by His Royal Highness to continue to act as a personal representative on several key interests.

John is an active philanthropist, having founded the Jubilee Hour, recognised by the UK government as the largest mobilisation of volunteering since the Second World War, with more than two million participants. He also co-founded the ‘Remember WW1’ part of the Government’s commemorative activities and is patron, trustee and supporter of a variety of UK charities. Alongside this John has published two books, the latest being The Power of Purpose by Pearson, which combines his and his co-author’s experience with insights from interviews with more than 60 renowned leaders including Sir Richard Branson, Paul Polman, Dame Cilla Snowball and Dame Inga Beale.

He is a regular speaker and panellist and was made a member of the most Excellent Order of The British Empire in Her Majesty The Queen’s 2017 Birthday Honours list for his contribution to various charitable endeavours.
