The Power of Qualitative Data
Tue 21 March 2017, 13:30 – 16:00 GMT
Data doesn’t just mean numbers and big data: some of the most important and powerful findings come from in-depth qualitative data that explains and contextualises key trends. As a DataFest Fringe Event, this workshop will celebrate the contribution of small and deep qualitative data, bringing together qualitative and mixed-methods researchers from any field to discuss methods, analysis and findings.
Researchers and evaluators from the public sector, universities, charities and the private sector are all welcome to share and learn from each other. We want to bring together very different fields to find common ground and inspiration from across health, social science, digital humanities, market research and many more areas.
A series of mini-talks will highlight some of the ways different research has used qualitative data, and the impact it has had in their area. This will be followed by lots of opportunity for open discussion and networking. Optional questions for debate will include:
How can we improve the impact of qualitative research?
How can we increase the acceptability of qualitative methods?
Can we empower citizens and participants to undertake qualitative research?
How should we make best use of existing sources of qualitative evidence?
Can computer algorithms help analyse large amounts of qualitative data?
The event will be held at The Melting Pot, on Rose Street in central Edinburgh. Attendance is free, but places must be reserved in advance.
If you wish to contribute a mini-talk to the session or have any questions please e-mail email@example.com. Deadline for contributions is the 13th of March, and spaces are very limited! The event is sponsored by Quirkos (http://www.quirkos.com) – an Edinburgh based company designing accessible qualitative analysis software.
