The Pregnant Pelvis - Whole Body Assessment & Plan of Care for PGP
Sat 17 June 2017, 10:00 – 14:00 BST
A workshop suitable for midwives, doulas, GPs, physiotherapists or similar health care professionals who wish to accurately assess and skillfully support women with Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) in pregnancy or in the postnatal period.
80% of all pregnant women will experience acute muscular or skeletal pelvic pain during pregnancy, with up to 25% experiencing chronic pain for the duration of their gestation and into the postnatal period.
Primary healthcare providers (midwives, GPs etc) often don't know how to distinguish between types of PGP, their causes and therefore don't know how best to support their women in managing their conditions. For women, pain can range from discomfort through to immobility and can impact mental as well as physical health.
This 4 hour workshop will look at the physiology of the pelvis, the physics of motion and muscle use, assessing the type of PGP through both a hands on approach and from listening to presenting sysmptoms. We will then look at the options available for either eliminating or managing the problem for the duration of the pregnancy.
Please note: a workshop will be available at a later date for those individuals who are qualified in physiotherapy, massage or similar who wish to go on to treat PGP using our technique. A discount will be available to those who have already completed this workshop.
A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the workshop which can be used for revalidation, CPD or similar. Successful completion will be considered the attendance, participation and informal assessment of attendees during the day.
This will be a practical, hands on workshop so comfy clothing should be worn. Additonally, the clothing should not be too thick to enable you to easily identify your own pelvic landmarks.
Hot and cold drinks & a light lunch inlcuded. Dietary requirements can be catered for - please let us know of any requirments at booking.
