The Price of a Mile
Join us for a special launch event to celebrate our latest exhibition, The Price of a Mile.
This is the third in a series of exhibitions honouring doctors who gave anaesthesia and pain relief during the First World War, and explores the facilities and techniques available to medical teams during the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
Hear from Dr Emily Mayhew, author of Wounded: The Long Journey Home from the War. Wounded is the story of the journey from injury on the battlefield to recovery in Britain for the soldiers and the people who cared for them on the frontline.
A fascinating panel discussion with expers in the history of surgery and anaesthesia: Prof Roger Kneebone, Professor of Surgical Education and Engagement Science at Imperial College, and Dr Jean Horton, retired anaesthetist and past President of the History of Anaesthesia Society.
Sample a special canapé menu to commemorate the Battle of the Somme and the Allied combat nations, with traditional foods from all the countries.
Explore the Price of a Mile exhibition and the Anaesthesia Heritage Centre in a special private view.
