The next wave in digital transformation - a silicon valley veteran's perspective

Lancaster Graduate Bruce Sewell, (BSc Psychology, 1979, Bowland), Honorary Graduate LLD (Honoris Causa) 2014 and a University Philanthropic Patron, is the former Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Apple. He has enjoyed a high-flying career with two of the world's best-known companies - Intel and Apple.

"Since 2000, 52 percent of the Fortune 500 companies have either been acquired, merged, or have declared bankruptcy. It is estimated that 40 percent of the companies in existence today will shutter their operations in the next ten years.

At the same time innovative corporate entities with entirely new DNA like Lyft, Google, Zelle, Square, Airbnb, Amazon, Twilio, Shopify, Zappos, and Axios, thrive. The winners in this round will succeed because they understand and have embraced the next wave of digital transformation."

In this lecture, Bruce Sewell, a 30 year veteran of Silicon Valley, will consider what defines this latest wave of technical change, and assess both the advantages and the hurdles to adoption.

His widow, Lady Joan Smith, funds and supports the advancement of Strategic Management within Lancaster University Management School. This lecture series commemorates Sir Roland's significant contribution to the UK's academic and business communities.
