Fear is a normal part of our humanity. But what happens when fear grips us so tight we can’t breathe, can’t speak or even can’t feel? Despite the prevalence of anxiety and panic disorders, the public understanding of panic attacks is poor. In this workshop we’ll understand one of the most challenging experiences our mind can make: panic attacks. We’ll unpick them, exploring the psychology behind them to the changes in the body that make them such overwhelming and visceral experiences. We’ll also look at the ways we can hack this biology to intervene and bring us back down to earth.
Whether you suffer from panic attacks yourself or you want to learn how to help others, this workshop will equip you with an in-depth understanding of the neuroscience behind panic and practical strategies to cope.
Workshop Highlights:
🎓Expert-led session: Learn the difference between anxiety and panic disorders
🧠Understand: Demystify the neuroscience of panic disorders
💡Uncover a lesser-told story: Discover the hormonal changes and physical changes behind panic disorders
⚙️Practical tools: Learn strategies and helpful approaches to reduce panic attacks from happening as well as what to do when they are underway.
With a little learning and some curiosity we can get to grips with the panic so it doesn’t get a grip on us!

About your host:
Dr Jonathan Iliff is a psychiatrist and medical doctor in the NHS, with a background in neuroscience and psychedelic drug research. His research focused on the use of psychedelic compounds, like LSD and psilocybin - the active ingredient in magic mushrooms - a promising new treatment for depression. Today his focus is clinical - focusing on helping with people, and their problems in the here and now. His mission is to stoke conversation about health and mental health, change attitudes that persist in even the most tolerant parts of our society, and encourage innovation like the use of psychedelic drugs that aim to improve the lives of the billions of people that suffer directly and indirectly from mental health disorders.
