The psychology of social identity: Prized and dangerous effects
Thoughts on how identity influences behaviour at conscious and sub-conscious levels
By Professor Daniel Frings, Professor of Social Psychology, Centre for Addictive Behaviours Research, School of Applied Sciences LSBU
Description: What makes us who we are as social beings? What impacts do our social identities have on the way we think, feel and live our lives? And what do they mean for the future of society? In this fast paced lecture, Professor Dan Frings will discuss how his research sheds light on these issues by delving into diverse topics such addiction, educational attainment and mental health. He will also explore how the self-views we hold in common may pose the biggest threat to our well-being, but also offer the greatest promise of positive change.
