Event Details

This is a joint event with CIPD Gloucestershire is aimed at HR Leaders in senior and strategic roles.

Leaders in HR have a responsibility to set the tone taken by their organisation. To take on that responsibility your toolkit has to include both a broad understanding of the law and a deeper understanding of the psychology of whistleblowing.

This session is aimed at all those who take a leadership or strategic role in their company, and will provide you with the understanding you need to drive forward policy and practice to protect your organisation.

After a brief introduction to the law to provide context from legal expert Ian Pettifer, this session will be led by Dr Mike Drayton, who will explore the research in the behavioural and psychological sciences with case studies and video material.

This session will be interactive, so come prepared to engage and share your questions.

Dr Mike Drayton is a business and clinical psychologist and an expert on workplace relationships. He specialises in helping senior leaders, and leadership teams manage complex, potentially high conflict ‘tipping point’ situations. Mike’s clients include: Sony, Cathay Pacific Airways, Zurich International School, the Cabinet Office and the Northern Ireland Assembly.  Mike was educated at LSE, the University of Birmingham and the University of Oxford (Saïd Business School).

Ian Pettifer is a solicitor with more than 20 years of experience, advising on all areas of employment law, and regularly appearing in Employment Tribunals, and even in the Court of Justice of the European Union.  He has been the head of department at a series of leading firms, and is now developing the Birmingham office of Davies and Partners Solicitors who are based locally in Gloucester.

Ian is also a Chartered MCIPD, and has previously been treasurer in the Gloucester branch and Hereford and Worcester branch, now continuing as the treasurer of the Birmingham branch of the CIPD.
