Event description

Description

Come and learn about the exciting public engagement projects which ran in 2017/18 supported by our Development Funding. Our Showcase is open to staff, researchers and students from all parts of the University, as the projects featured represent a wide range of disciplines.

Project leaders and teams will be showcasing their work (objectives, approaches and outcomes) at this informal event with a mix of displays and presentations.

Find out:

  • How a set of creative activities for school children has helped communicate and explore challenges around prosthetic hand development, leveraging significant follow-on funding.
  • How a 1980s style arcade game is helping people of all ages to absorb important messages about their immune system and immunotherapy.
  • How inviting teenagers to ‘idea jams’ has influenced the design of a smartphone game supporting exercise and healthy eating, and enabled them to engage directly with research which has implications for their futures.
  • How a collaborative project to uncover local history brought a community together in a new awareness of the place where they live, and deepened researchers’ understanding
  • How local writers and doctoral researchers were brought together to train as ‘writers in the community’, building relationships and creating momentum for future outreach and engagement projects at local and national level.
  • How an interdisciplinary team of doctoral researchers collaborated to start new conversations and share knowledge with the public across diverse ‘coastal’ research themes.
  • How art works were created and used collaboratively by researchers, stroke survivors and artists to raise awareness and build understanding around the lived ‘post-stroke’ experience.
  • How an innovative contemporary music composition and performance is being used to build understanding of the HIV life-cycle and cutting-edge therapies.

We hope you can join us!
