First published in 1993 and revised in 1997, The Quality of Leicester remains a unique attempt to capture the essence of Leicester's architectural character in words and pictures. In 2015 the speaker was commissioned to write a new book bringing the project forward to the present. Michael will reflect on stability and change in a dynamic city from the Millennium into the second decade of the 21st century.
Michael Taylor is a freelance practitioner and lecturer in conservation and planning in the historic built environment. He has worked as senior building conservation officer for Leicester City Council and as Historic Areas Adviser for English Heritage in the West Midland region. Michael was the author of the 1993 and 1997 editions of The Quality of Leicester.
