Under the guise of bravery achieved through lavish drinking habits, this unapologetic physical theatre work explores intimate perspectives of discovering one’s queer, bi, Latinx fierceness and as a result, encountering intriguing family histories, multiple microaggressions and a strong sense of resolve.

Told in a strong mix of the comedic-yet-poignant, this autobiographical physical storytelling project brings forth a powerful Latinx voice of queer inbetweenness, examined meticulously through a Martini glass lens. Trailer: https://youtu.be/CmdEtKbYGzM

Judy Garland, drag and mental health set the scene for this physical exploration of identity. Visceral meets absurd when we peek into the complex building of a drag persona, unpicking layers of who we are, struggling through the anxiety of who we want to be.

About the Company:

Fflamingo is a new cross-genre performance company specialising in creating, producing and supporting queer work made in Wales co-directed by Gareth Pahl & Thania Acarón. Our mission is to develop and promote the Queer voice in Wales by producing strong, exciting, and emotive performance that challenges and emboldens audiences in Wales and beyond. Fflamingo not only develops and produces our own works, but seeks to form partnerships and working opportunities with similar Queer identifying artists. @iheartfflamingo.

About the Performers:

Thania Acarón (she/her) is a dance movement psychotherapist, researcher, lecturer and performer from Puerto Rico, currently based in Wales. Thania is an interdisciplinary movement artist who combines physical theatre, dance and spoken word. She co-directs Fflamingo and has been artistic dramaturg for arts in health projects across the UK and internationally. Thania also offers workshops on therapeutic work with the LGBTQ+ community, embodied decision-making and dance movement psychotherapy (DMP). In 2020, she founded her own company, The Body Hotel, which focuses on dance/movement as a tool for wellbeing for NHS employees and underrepresented minorities.

Gareth Pahl (he/they) is a Welsh circus, theatre and cabaret drag performer (stage name Ernie Sparkles) with professional interests in storytelling and inclusive arts practice and research. He is currently exploring drag performance as a vehicle for personal and social transformation. He is cofounder of The House of Deviant which works adults with learning disabilities to explore drag performance, autonomy and self esteem. He also co-directs Fflamingo and The Sparklettes, and is a fierce advocate of the Gig Buddies project.
