Share The Rape Crisis Scotland Helpline: 10 years of supporting survivors and campaigning for change

Event Details

Over the past 10 years the Rape Crisis Scotland Helpline has supported thousands of survivors of rape and sexual violence.

This conference celebrates the past 10 years, looking at the developments the helpline has made, how the work has fed into wider changes in policy and practice, as well as looking to the future.

Key note speakers include:

  • Michael Matheson MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Justice
  • Sandie Barton, Director of Operations, Rape Crisis Scotland
  • Sandra Ferguson, Programme Manager NES Trauma Training Framework Team
  • Stuart Houston, Detective Superintendent, National Rape Task Force
  • Oona Brooks, Scottish Centre for Crime & Justice Research, University of Glasgow

A full conference programme will be available soon.

Workshops topics include:

  • Trauma informed practice
  • Supporting LGBTI survivors
  • Widening access to justice
  • Innovation in support and accessing justice

Details

The conference will run from 9.30am to 4pm on Thursday 9 November and Scottish Youth Theatre, Glasgow. Registration will be from 9am.

We are keen for the conference to be widely accessible; if cost is a barrier to you attending please contact us.

Who is this conference for?

The conference is of interest to anyone with an interest in preventing rape and sexual violence, supporting survivors, feminism and human rights, including frontline and managerial staff in:

  • Local authorities and other public sector bodies
  • Third and independent sector agencies
  • Police and workers in the criminal justice system
  • NHS and independent healthcare providers
  • The police and regulatory bodies
  • Solicitors and other legal professionals
  • Students and academics

The conference will be relevant to both those new to issues around rape and sexual violence and experienced practitioners. It will also be of interest to survivors.
