Event description
Our Learning and Development Programme is back! KALC is pleased to offer further online workshops for local councils...

About this Event

KALC is very pleased to announce further workshops that explore best practice for remote working. In these unprecedented times, it's important that councils harness the best way possible to connect with its officers, councillors and the wider community too.

This new online ( distance learning) course V101 is accessible to all officers and members of Local Councils engaging with the challenges and opportunities introduced in the 4 April regulations allowing for virtual / remote meetings. The course is three hours in length and is delivered online via the Zoom platform. It will include a thirty minute "Question and Answer" session. Our event will be presented by our course tutors John Rivers and Clive Powell.

No knowledge is assumed and delegates attending will probably be either contemplating the use of virtual meetings in the future or reflecting on their Council's recent experience to date and how they can improve their performance.

Our draft programme for the session is as follows (subject to change for time restraints and so on):

  1. Welcome & Introduction: Meet the Team.
  2. Latest challenges for Local Councils. Where are we? And Why?
  3. Key legal and procedural issues
  4. The Need for Process and Best Practice
  5. Two months on: A Time For Reflection!
  6. The Virtual Environment for Local Councils
  7. Getting To Grips With IT: Options and Platforms
  8. The Effective Virtual Local Council: Key Issues
  9. Problems, Opportunities and The Future
  10. Questions and Feedback

As this is a pilot event, we will be charging at a reduced rate of £50 + VAT for members and £100 + VAT for non-members. This reflects the lack of venue and catering facilities that would normally be offered at our traditional events.

  • Your joining instructions will be sent via email 48 hours before the event begins.
  • You will need a desktop computer/laptop or tablet that has a camera and microphone to participate. Make sure you have a pen and ample paper should you require it.
  • If you have any questions in the meantime, contact communications.officer@kentalc.gov.uk
