Event description

Description

On this walk through the City of London, we’ll discover the story of Sir Richard Whittington – the medieval merchant, philanthropist and Mayor who inspired the legend of Dick Whittington and his Cat. We’ll see the church whose bells are said to have summoned him to return to London and the church where he was buried. We’ll learn about livery companies, mayors and public toilets. We’ll find him commemorated with plaques and statues and find out how the money he left in his will is still benefitting Londoners today. And, of course, we’ll try to answer the question ‘did he really have a cat?’

The walk will last about 90 minutes and is a circular route starting and finishing at Bank Station. Meet on the forecourt of the Royal Exchange – exit 3 from the station.

You can check travel options at the Transport for London Journey Planner.
