Powderhall Bronze are now running sculpture courses from the Art Studio at the Edinburgh Foundry. All courses are led by professional artists who offer expert tuition in specialist sculptural processes.
The Reclining Figure will be a two-day course working from a life model to create a reclining figure in clay on a wire armature. The course will include discussions on the subject of figurative sculpture from pre-history to the contemporary era. With practical demonstrations covering anatomy, mass, volume, negative space, composition, balance and gravity as it pertains to the modelling of figurative sculpture.
Courses are limited to a maximum of 10 students who have the opportunity to develop their clay modelling techniques. All materials are included.
There will be a tour of the Foundry explaining the processes involved in casting sculpture, including a bronze pouring. Finally you will be offered the opportunity to have your finished piece moulded and cast by skilled artisans into resin or bronze at the end of the course. Participants will receive a 15% discount for Foundry Services.
Kenny Hunter led An Introduction to modeling the Figure in Clay at Powderhall Bronze in August 2016. The course was held over two days and students made a Seated Figure. The Standing Figure running on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th of November will be the second in the Figure Modelling series and will be followed by The Reclining Figure, which will be held on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of January 2017.
Kenny is one of Scotland’s leading contemporary artists. He is also currently Director of the Sculpture Programme at Edinburgh College of Art.
