Description

The Red Brick Sessions: University of Salford 50th Anniversary Special - Ravel, Adés, Strauss & Rebel

Join us for this special edition of the ever-popular Red Brick Session series, to celebrate the University’s 50th anniversary. Along with an exciting programme of music, there will be some special treats - including a celebratory drink on arrival for all guests.

The event is free, and University of Salford staff, students and alumni can take advantage of a special priority booking offer, whereby you can reserve tickets for yourself and your guests (up to 2 per person), before they go on general release through BBC Audiences. This is only available until 7th April*, and on a first-come-first-served basis, so book now to avoid disappointment.

About the Redbrick Sessions:

Forget what you thought you knew about orchestral concerts; this new and innovative series requests that you DO turn on your mobile phones and tablets.

The BBC Philharmonic, in partnership with the University of Salford, will be exploring new and rarely performed pieces – bringing audience immersion and new technology to the forefront.

The sessions will be featured in an enhanced live stream on the orchestra’s website, which enables the audience to explore the orchestra, receive synced information about the music and even view a live orchestral score.

Bring your devices and help us explore a new way of experiencing an orchestra.

This evening:

We go back to the French Baroque for the last concert of this series. The orchestra performs Jean-Féry Rebel’s 1737 ballet score The Elements, and Maurice Ravel’s early 20th Century ballet-tribute to his great Baroque predecessor François Couperin. Alongside these are Thomas Adès’ contemporary orchestrations of Couperin, and late romantic composer Richard Strauss’ own 1941 arrangement of Couperin, his Divertimento.

The Red Brick Sessions are brought to you in partnership between the BBC Philharmonic, the University of Salford, Salford City Council and BBC Research & Development.
