Hot off the back of our Prometheus themed June offering (and our cheeky D&AD New Blood battle-screening) comes The Reel Presents’ July selection. We’ve collected a truly magnificent pile of shorts, promos, animations, virals and fashion films and crafted them into a rollercoaster ride of emotions for you to scream at.
Our guests this month are M&C Saatchi and their FilmHack competition - a 48hr film challenge which will see 6 teams make a short film across two days, in partnership with Goldsmiths and YouTube! Armed with merely a camera phone (provided), edited on final cut pro and shot in London, the guerrilla gangs have to make a 2-minute short loosely linked to The Olympics, not only in the film’s location and the timing of the challenge, but also via a continuity thread passed between each film that serves to link them all together, like the ‘passing of a batton’. The films won’t have been finished until the Friday before the screening, so not even WE know what they’ll be like! Exciting stuff!!!
So here’s the score:
- FilmHack filmmkers plus and introduction from M&C Saatchi.
- The Reel Scout selection of work from unsigned filmmakers.
- The Reel Presents assortment of signed filmmkers’ wares.
- Lovely drinks (free), lovely company (priceless) and lovely sofas (lovely).
Be there or... just be there.
The Reel Team
For those who haven’t been before, The Reel Presents is our monthly showcase of the very best work we’ve seen and posted in the past couple of months. Split between signed and un-signed talent (so you lovable production companies can pluck the fresh fruit), we show a fast-paced mixture of short films, pop promos, fashion/experimental films, branded content and anything else screenable and awesome. It’s all projected in the back room of Café 1001 (comfy sofas and relaxed atmosphere guaranteed) and we even pop a bit of dosh behind the bar to help lubricate your sense-receptors. All in all, a good night.
