About the event

This is the second of two conferences addressing the UK’s place in the Digital Single Market. It will discuss data protection and privacy policy. The objective of the conference is to discuss practitioner and stakeholder views about the cross-border data handling sector’s environment in the context of: current changes in the market, EU regulation and Brexit.

Background on the Digital Single Market

One fourth of the European Commission’s 2015 Communication ‘Upgrading the Single Market: more opportunities for people and business’ dealt with digital single market (DSM) initiatives. The DSM roadmap includes 19 different actions including new EU Regulations and Directives and a review of the Telecomms package (the 2016 ‘Connectivity package’) This conference addresses GDPR implementation, revision of the e-privacy Directive and issues of cross-border data handling.

Background on the project

This conference is being financed by the ‘UK in a Changing Europe’ initiative, based at Kings College London and financed by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
