About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

Once passed only to the left and offered warmth to British commoners and judges before the invention of central heating, the rules on how port should be drunk have changed many times during its four centuries of history. As the days of ‘three-bottle men’ are long gone and the Bishop of Norwich is replaced with Game of Thrones, it is time to discover how and why port remained as relevant as ever for the 21st century wine drinker!

No better time to join us for an evening of discovery of the different shades of port than the 269th anniversary of the demarcation of wine region that gave us this phenomenal drink. Adam from School of Port will guide us through the origins, the makings and most importantly the evolution of this category and will show us why and how it is still a truly contemporary drink to be enjoyed in all seasons.

We will start with a glass of refreshing White Port & Tonic cocktail and will continue to taste the following ports:

  • Cockburn’s White Heights (White Port)
  • Graham’s Six Grapes (Ruby)
  • Cockburn’s 2019 LBV
  • Warre’s Otima 2013 (Colheita)
  • Graham’s 30-Year-Old Tawny
  • Quinta do Vesuvio 2019 Vintage Port
  • Dow’s 1994 Vintage Port

School of Port is an educational initiative for wine professionals and wine lovers, created in 2020 by the port-mad people at Symington Family Estates to share the wonders of port and the Douro. It serves anyone who wants to learn essential port knowledge and navigate more confidently around this complex wine category with relevant knowledge straight from the source: a family that is involved in making and selling port wine for 5 generations.
