Event Information
Event description
Description
On Wednesday, 14 February 2018, Martin Horrell will talk about reredoses (altar screens) created both before and after the Reformation. He will then go into greater detail about the reredos in St David's Church here in Exeter and Nathaniel Hitch who carved it. Hitch is considered to be the finest Gothic carver of his era and was given work by many of the great architects.
Lastly, Martin will tell of the individual fate (often gruesome) of each of the people shown on the reredos. The talk is illustrated with about 100 photographs.
This event is free to members and £3 (pay at the door) to non-members. It is essential to book in advance. Just to turn up could mean being refused entry if the event is fully booked.
