Each year The Richmond Society celebrates contributions in the past year to Richmond’s amenities by an Award or Commendation. We look for projects which are examples of high standards of town planning, new buildings and works to old ones, landscaping, infrastructure and street furniture which make a positive and sympathetic contribution to the character of the town’s build environment and architectural integrity.
Come and find out about the projects which have been nominated. They include:
· Richmond Station – for the restoration of its façade and interior concourse;
· Richmond Charities – for two new almshouses, one in Mitre Close and the other in Queen’s Road;
· St Thomas’s College, Queen’s Road – for restoration and refurbishment of a listed building for educational purposes;
· Refurbishment of a Victorian villa in Kew;
· Footpath and board-walk from Old Palace Lane into Old Deer Park;
· A circular tree seat recently installed on Terrace Walk.
The Mayor of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, Councillor Penny Frost, will present the Awards.
Several members have asked why the Council does not require owners to repair prominent dilapidated buildings, so you can hear from Craig Raybould, Planning Enforcement Team Manager, Richmond & Wandsworth Council, who will speak about the Council’s enforcement policies and powers.
This event will be at Duke Street Church, Duke Street, Richmond TW9 1DH on Wednesday 22 October at 7:30pm. Doors open at 7:00pm with wine and soft drinks available. Free for Richmond Society members in person and online. Members will be e-mailed a Zoom link shortly before the meeting. Non-members may attend in person for £7 or join the Society at www.richmondsociety.org.uk
