About this event

Hobbies • Books

The Rising Wave Book Club is all about reading books that lift us, shift us, and carry us toward our truest selves; from history to the human spirit — riding the waves of discovery.

It is a gathering of curious readers who come together not just for information, but for transformation. We explore a wide spectrum of non-fiction — from history and science to psychology, spirituality, nature writing, and personal development — always choosing books with the power to move us.

Your host, David, is one of our Brighton booksellers, often found on the 3rd and 4th floors. Quite simply, he loves books and reading. For him, books have always been more than stories — they’ve been steady companions and trusted guides, shaping his journey through life.

An eclectic reader, he delights in everything from Douglas Adams’s wit to Tolkien’s wonder, from the science of Stephen Hawking and Carlo Rovelli to the wisdom of Pema Chödrön and Thich Nhat Hanh. For David, books are magical, healing, and connecting — and he looks forward to sharing that magic with you in The Rising Wave. For our very first gathering, David has chosen 'Say Yes to Life, in Spite of Everything' by Viktor Frankl — a deeply moving and life-affirming work to spark conversation and connection.Attendance is free but please book a ticket so we can monitor numbers.
