The River Hamble Estuary: A Wealth of Waders and Wildfowl

The Hamble estuary is an internationally important area for nature and it is covered by several conservation initiatives to help protect its ecosystem including Bird Aware Solent of which the Hampshire & IOW Wildlife Trust is one of its partners. Bird Aware Solent is dedicated to raising people's awareness of the fascinating birds along our coastline and to help people enjoy them without disturbing them. John Clark will lead a walk northwards along the eastern bank of the estuary to see the great variety of waders and wildfowl to be found there especially in the spring and autumn months including redshank, dunlin and wigeon. The walk is about 4 miles along mostly gravel paths that wind their way past the ecologically important feeding grounds of mud flats and salt marshes to the lagoon at Bunny Meadows.
