About this event

Travel & Outdoor • Hiking

The Roaches & Lud’s Church hike takes in some of the most dramatic landscapes in the Staffordshire Peak District. Starting with a steady climb up The Roaches, walkers are rewarded with sweeping views over Tittesworth Reservoir, the Cheshire Plain, and, on a clear day, even as far as Snowdonia.

The ridge offers striking gritstone formations, windswept moorland, and plenty of photo opportunities. From there, the route descends through woodland to the atmospheric Lud’s Church – a deep, moss-covered chasm steeped in myth and local folklore. Cool, damp and otherworldly, it feels like stepping into a secret world.

The route includes uneven and occasionally muddy paths, moderate ascents, and some rocky sections, making it a rewarding and varied hike for those with a reasonable level of fitness.
