The Role of Legal Activism in the Advancement of Trans Rights

The University of Edinburgh’s Staff Pride Network in collaboration with the Glass Network (the Law Society of Scotland’s advisory body on LGBT+ matters and Scotland’s organisation for LGBT+ legal professionals) invites you to join our panel discussion on the role of legal activism in the advancement of trans rights and the current challenges in the wake of the Bell v Tavistock High Court judgment, this LGBT History Month.
Over the years, legal activism has played an instrumental role in the advancement of the lives of trans individuals and the improvement of trans rights. In this panel event we will hear from our speakers (details below) and facilitate discussions on the importance of legal activism, spanning from Corbett v Corbett in the 1960s to JLR last year in 2020.

Jennifer Ang, Partner at Just Right Scotland.
Sharon Cowan, Professor of Feminist and Queer Legal Studies at the University of Edinburgh.
Kay Foulkes, Diploma in Professional Legal Practice Student and Committee Member of the Glass Network.
