Olaf Martins, IOGP

The world’s population is growing. So is the need for energy. For heat. For light. For transport. For food and water. And for industry, which makes those things you want and need.

  • But, will we have enough energy?
  • Will we be able to provide it in a sustainable way?
  • Which energy sources will help us to bridge security of supply, affordability and environmental and climate concerns?
  • What will the role of oil and gas be in 2040?

These questions will be addressed in Olaf Martins’ presentation about the role of oil and gas tomorrow. Olaf Martins is the Global Engagement Manager for the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP) which is the international trade body representing the oil and gas exploration and production industry. IOGP acts as a uniquely upstream forum in which its members identify and share knowledge and good practices to achieve improvements in health, safety, the environment, security and social responsibility. The organisation is headquartered in London. Its members produce 40% of the world’s oil and gas.

Olaf is an economist with 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Before joining IOGP in March 2016 he had worked in various positions in Germany, Belgium and the U.S.
All DEI public lectures are free to attend and open to the public. Free parking is available on campus for non-university attendees after 5pm.

There will be a post lecture networking drinks reception from 19.00-20.00.

Organiser

Durham Energy Institute

From Anthropology to Physics, Durham Energy Institute covers the spectrum of energy research but the areas in which we excel are those which lie at the boundaries between the traditional technical disciplines and the social sciences and humanities. We encourage such interdisciplinary work as we feel these areas will yield major breakthroughs. The small size and compact nature of the university is to our advantage as it naturally stimulates interactions between departments and disciplines. Thus, we are agile and responsive and we can quickly assemble bespoke-research teams.
