Our webinar series on Religious, non-religious and cultural perspectives on end-of-life and funeral care continues with a deep consideration of the role of spiritual care in supporting children and young people receiving end of life care. The webinar is hosted by Sarah Jones, founder of Full Circle Funerals.

Join us for a compassionate webinar exploring the role of spirituality in paediatric palliative care. Led by Saarah, a Spiritual Care Practitioner at Martin House Children’s Hospice, this session will help you understand how to recognise and respond to spiritual distress in children at the end of life, nurture their spirituality (including non-verbal children), and support families from all faiths and none. Learn about the vital role of chaplains and how to embed spiritual care even without one in post. Saarah will share real-life examples and practical approaches for offering meaningful, holistic support during the most sacred and vulnerable moments of life.

Saarah is a Spiritual Care Practitioner in Martin House Children’s Hospice, Martin House cares for babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions from across West, North and East Yorkshire. Its support includes planned respite stays, symptom control, emergency care, end of life care and bereavement support. Every year Martin House cares for more than 550 children and their families, as well as supporting around 200 bereaved family members, at its hospice, in hospitals and in the community. It is open 24/7, 365 days a year, whenever families need help and support.

Saarah supports families offering emotional, spiritual, and religious support to children with life-limiting illnesses and their families. The role is deeply compassionate and holistic, attending to the inner needs of both the child and their family regardless of religious background or belief system. We help children explore fears, hopes, meaning, and comfort. The role offers a compassionate presence; accompanying bereaved parents in their darkness, offering a hand to hold, listening to what they feel and exploring ways that may bring them a little comfort.
