SYNOPSIS
Humanitarian Programmes face many challenges, because
• they are often in remote regions of the world lacking communications bandwidth
• they may not benefit from big data to inform decision making in near real-time
How can the technology sector better support such initiatives? A plethora of tools, apps and technologies are available, but which ones have been successful in disaster settings and to support development programmes in low income regions such as Africa, South Asia or Central America? The speaker will give examples from a number of recent projects such as the Ebola Crisis in West Africa and the current COVID-19 Pandemic
