Event description

Description

The Sacred is a podcast interested in the state of our public conversations. We explore how the things we hold sacred, but rarely have language to express, could help us understand each other better, even when we disagree.

Each episode features an in-depth interview with host Elizabeth Oldfield and a wide array of guests from a variety of beliefs and background — politicians to poets, academics to archbishops, journalists to jurists. Conversations explore childhood influences, the things we hold dear and examine the things that hold us together — not just as individuals, but as a society.

This event is a live podcast recording and will feature an interview with Richard Ayoade and Lydia Fox.

Richard Ayoade is an actor, director, writer and comedian. He grew up in Suffolk, the son of a Norwegian mother and a Nigerian father. He studied Law at Cambridge university, and became the president of the Cambridge Footlights club.

Ayoade's first TV break was in the comedy horror series, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, which he also wrote and directed. This was followed by cameo appearances and a script editor role in another cult series, The Mighty Boosh. His fame was cemented in The IT Crowd where Ayoade played IT technician Maurice Moss, a role which won him a BAFTA for Best Male Comedy Performance.

He has directed music videos for Vampire Weekend, Kasabian, and Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs. In 2010, he wrote and directed his first feature film, Submarine, followed by The Double in 2013, based on a novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky. He has presented Gadget Man, Travel Man and The Crystal Maze, as well as appearing on numerous comedy panel shows.

Richard is married to Lydia Fox, who is an actor and part of the Fox ‘acting dynasty’. Her most recent projects include The Souvenir, released this summer, and The Double. They live in South London.
